On a packed day in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, a total of 1,703 entries showed up for Day 1a of Event #62: $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed. By the end of 18 levels, there were just 99 that found a bag and moved on to Day 2. The chipleader at the end of the night was Anthony Reategui who bagged an impressive 369,000.
Reategui starting to build a stack about halfway through the day and ending on a strong note as he caught an opponent trying to bluff. There were many other players finishing with healthy stacks including Peter Nigh (352,000), Kyle Keranen (286,000), Aaron Pinson (281,000), Josef Snejberg (274,000), and Daniel Gamliel (272,000).
Some notables to bag on Day 1a are Clyde Shimp (244,000), Germanies Ismael Bojang (233,000), bracelet winner Mike Leah (155,000), Canada's Kyle Hartree (193,000), Carlos Chang (151,000), Sandeep Vasudevan (148,000), Ashley Sleeth (111,000), and Jeremy Ausmus (106,000).
Many well-known players registered but failed to fill a bag including Barry Greenstein, Ian Steinman, Jordan Young, Christian Nolte, Martin Mathis, Kelly Kellner, Katie Lindsay, Dieter Dechant, Upeshka De Silva, Alex Foxen, and Joey Weissman.
It was halfway through the 14th level when the money bubble popped and players were then guaranteed a min-cash of $1,332. A total of 1,703 players accumulated a prize pool of $1,361,037 and the remaining money that is not paid out during this flight will be carrying over to the final payout.
The tournament has now completed its first flight of four and there are three more to go. Once the remaining three flights are over, Day 2 will be starting at 2 p.m. local time on July 2. All remaining prize pools from each flight will be combined and presented at the beginning of this day.
